Emily Jordan Hammann represents healthcare providers, hospitals, school boards, Fortune 500 companies, and other clients in trial courts throughout Maryland and Washington , D.C. Ms. Hammann has handled a variety of cases involving general surgical complications, orthopedic surgical complications, vascular surgical complications, preeclampsia, placental abruption leading to fetal death, emergency department care, home health care, and other hospital care. She has successfully defended numerous dentists against a wide variety of claims, as well as dealing with Board of Physicians and Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. Ms. Hammann has also handles serious personal injury claims arising from general negligence allegations, premises liability, professional liability and represents Boards of Education on a variety of issues.
Ms. Hammann received her law degree from the George Washington University Law School , where she served as a member of the Environmental Lawyer . She is a member of the bar of the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts in both jurisdictions.
Representative Matters
• Represented a general surgeon who was alleged to have negligently failed to personally read and confirm the results of a sonogram, which would have revealed stones in the Plaintiff's common bile duct that allegedly should have been surgically attended to before the removal of an infected and necrotic gallbladder. At the close of the trial, Plaintiff requested more than $500,000 in damages, while her husband, claimed an additional amount of $150,000 in loss of consortium damages. The jury determined that the physician did not breach the standard of care.
• Represented a general dentist who was alleged to have been negligent in the treatment of decay such that a root canal was ultimately needed, as well as treatment from a specialist. At the conclusion of trial, the court found that the dentist did not beach the standard of care and judgment was entered on the dentist's behalf.
• Represented a Fortune 500 company alleged to have been negligent in permitting a bungee cord to strike a customer in his eye, causing permanent vision impairment. At the close of trial, the client was found not to be negligent and judgment was entered on its behalf behalf.
• Represented an employer in an action to enforce a restrictive covenant against a former employee who left the company to work for a rival manufacturer. The Court found that the former employee had knowledge of the client's confidential and proprietary information and client database and therefore granted an injunction prohibiting the former employee from working for the competitor.
